I’ve worked with Tony and the team at Artisan Build & Construct on two projects—a residential DADU and a commercial retail space—and both were great experiences. The quality of their work really stands out. Everything was built cleanly and correctly, and the finished spaces looked exactly how we hoped they would. They clearly take pride in what they do, and it shows in the details.

The team was also incredibly responsive and easy to work with. Communication was clear, there were no surprises, and he was always upfront about costs and options. I had a set budget going into both projects, and instead of pushing me to spend more, he helped find smart ways to get the best result within it. That kind of transparency is rare in construction, and it made the whole process much less stressful. I’d absolutely work with them again.

Recently we had the original windows in our 1912 home replaced. The age of the windows and how inefficient they were finally made us bite the bullet to get them replaced. However, we had concerns because of the age and the fact that the home was historic. We wanted to make sure we maintain the historic look of the house with new windows but wanted more efficient windows in our drafty home.

We reached out to quite a few contractors to get bids and discuss with them how best to work with such windows. We chose Artisan Builders because of their track record with historic homes and recommendations from other customers. They walked us through the various window types that we could and could NOT use in historic homes. How we could go about trying to match the wood window patterns that we had with the original windows and to best try and match the current color of the window trim.

Once the windows were ordered and ready for installation, Artisan gave us daily updates on how things were progressing with the replacement process. Mind you we replaced 13 windows. As expected, the process took some time removing the old windows and fitting new windows into cut outs that were not exactly square, but Artisan has the knowledge and skill to successfully complete the job. The job was impressive and for the first time in 11 years of living in our home we could open ALL the windows for fresh air! We also no longer have frost rimmed windows when it’s cold out.

One last thing. As the window job was being done, I asked if the builders at Artisan would look at the sag in the overhang of our porch. They found that there was rotten support framing that was no longer getting the proper support needed for the overhang. Serious issue. Artisan, understanding the seriousness of the situation, made time and was flexible enough to help replace the framing of the overhang of our house with a full header. The execution of that job was impressive. Artisan was able to fix the problem in a matter of a few hours.

Needless to say, we cannot recommend Artisan Builders highly enough. Professional, Knowledgeable, Skilled and Flexible. It was a pleasure to work with them and will use them in the future for any remodeling jobs we may need.

As owner/lead designer of Both Minds Design, I can't say enough about how great our collaboration was with the Artisan team. They executed the build of my client's DADU with immense care, precision, and skill. Their product and process is fantastic, and I've worked with a lot of builders in the greater Nashville area. Nathan, our project manager, was a particular stand out. His ability to orchestrate trades, communicate, and always bring such a pleasant disposition to the job site made working in tandem with him such a great experience. The DADU is beautiful and I'd have zero hesitation recommending this team to anyone or any client that is needing remodeling/construction services.

If you are reading reviews because you’re researching Artisan for a project, do yourself a favor and give them serious consideration as your front runner. I’ve been through countless contractors in Nashville and none came close to working with Artisan. The work on my house was small but super complicated given the complexity of working on an old home and its “character.” The scope of the job was replacing a huge window on the front of my house and carefully repairing the framework around 100 year old windows on the of the house.

My experience below:

Project Management: Their project manager Ryan came over to scope the project WITH the carpenter (Mark) that would be doing the work. I got an incredibly detailed quote with line by line of costs to do the project back very quickly. He clearly communicated that his quote included addressing the issues we could see and some that could potentially be hiding in the walls (if you own an old house, you probably already know to expect this). If you’re planning to get multiple quotes and Artisan is more expensive, this is probably the reason and you’ll ultimately pay the amount Artisan quoted anyway when another contractor finds something they missed in the quote. In my case, we came in under quote because things weren’t so bad behind the walls (for once in my life owning this house!), but my expectations were at least set with reality.

Throughout the job, Ryan sent me daily updates on what work was done with pictures and a time to expect the crew back the next morning. As a homeowner in the midst of a project I can’t stress how important it is to have a strong project manager in place. Having been in situations as a homeowner with other contractors where that was not the case, I can tell you it’s 10X more stressful without someone like Ryan managing your job and communicating every detail up front.

The work: Shortly after signing the contract and putting my deposit down, their carpenter Mark was in my front yard with materials ready to go. His meticulousness and attention to detail were a rarity in this industry. Each step was methodical and never rushed until everything was perfect and the quality of work was at a level that the most senior Amish carpenter would give a thumbs up. He’s also an amazing dude with some really interesting life experiences to chat with about.

In summary, Artisan is a one of a kind type of company in this industry. I’ve worked with many contractors in Nashville and most have ranged from me ending things feeling screwed or feeling like they were just ok. Artisan came in on time, under budget and the quality exceeded my expectations. With Artisan I didn’t have to manage them (ever) and I felt like they put the same level of work into my house that they would on their own home.

This is a group of people who actually love what they do and take pride in their work. It’s clear that these guys work in a great environment that keeps top talent around. I recommend Artisan with the utmost regard and will be using them again in the future.

We had a great experience partnering with Artisan to breathe new life into our 120 year old house! They helped us create a master suite and add a half bath, installed bookcases and cabinets and did a variety of other needed repairs throughout the house including moving doors, adding a wall, and repairing floors and beams - all while keeping the antique character and charm. From creative Betz, who helped us turn our vague ideas into plans on paper; to Shane and Nathan our project managers who got us to the finish line with experience, inspiration, and great communication; to Mark the master framer/carpenter/Old House Whisperer; and all of the hardworking & professional subs, it is clear that Tony has built a team with shared principles of customer service, transparency, communication, and of course, quality work. We interviewed several contractors prior to picking Artisan. Theirs was not the lowest estimate we received nor the highest, but their estimates were fair and accurate and the work they did was worth every penny. Thanks, Artisan team, for everything!

Artisan Build Construct built for us a two car garage attached to a small 1930s garage we use as a tool shed. We live in an historic preservation area and sought to partner with a company that exhibited an appreciation for older homes and our preservation values. Embarking on a construction project was a new process for us. Tony Hirsch responded to a phone message as we put out feelers for someone to help us. He was responsive, listened to our needs and desires, and patiently walked us through the steps of first finding an architect and then all of the phases of the permitting and building process.

The preconstruction manager was so helpful with getting us started and aligning appropriate vendors. The resulting initial quote was very detailed and adhered to throughout the project. The invoice system was transparent and accurate. On occasion I went by the office and found the staff so friendly and helpful. The project managers, Mike and Shane, were extremely helpful and always accessible through several methods; email, text, phone calls and an app called Buildertrend. Materials were sourced that reflected the character of our home such as matching the brick and dutch lap siding, roofing shingles, and suggesting a beautiful wood paneling for the interior. A crew of top notch carpenters, with Mike (another one) being the one we got to know the best, did a masterful job. They were enthusiastic, creative, and invested in doing excellent work. We always felt we were in good hands and couldn't be happier with the final outcome. If you are looking for a construction company that does honest, high quality work, I highly recommend Artisan Build Construct.

Renovations are a pain, expensive, and full of surprises. I’ve been through several, with several different contractors. Artisan was definitely my best experience. Surprises and left turns will inevitably arise in any reno project, they did here and they worked to quickly and efficiently solve for them. They were communicative, reach-able, and open to creative thinking (weren’t just stuck on cookie cutter solutions). Also, the project came in under budget.

They are excellent, accessible communicators and did the job on time and slightly under budget. Our primary project managers Brian and Mitchell were especially great to work with. This was our first experience with contractors, so I really don't have anything to compare it to, but I would not hesitate to recommend them.

Our project kicked off in March of 2020 when everything shut down. This had the potential to be miserable, but Tony and his team (especially Peter, the project manager) somehow made it work.
